Laser Hair Removal May Be the Answer!

What is the best way to remove unwanted facial hair?
Many women pre and post menopause are plagued by unwanted facial hair especially on the chin
and upper lip. Electrolysis, waxing and plucking are all temporary measures. By far the most successful permanent treatment is laser hair removal. Most patients can achieve 80% reduction after a series of treatments and will require maintenance treatment only a few times yearly. See the excellent review of this topic at www.hairremovaljournal.org

Regrowth between sessions can be reduced with a prescription cream Vaniqa. See the
latest post on my blog www.drgoodlerner.com/blog for all of the details on this treatment.

We have been performing laser hair removal for more than 10 years. Currently we use the Gentlelase which is one of the most effective and painless lasers since it cools the skin with each laser pulse. Laser hair removal is available at many day spas, typically with an IPL light device which is less effective and requires more treatments to achieve the same results. We are currently having a
special introductory treatment, see offer on left.

Dermatologists' Top Tips for Healthy Skin, Hair and Nails

The skin is the largest and most visible organ of the human body. It protects your other organs, warms you up and cools you down, and reflects how healthy you are inside. Keep your skin, hair and nails healthy and looking their best by following these practical tips from dermatologists:

Skin Care
• Since skin care products are not subject to approval
by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA),
their benefits may not be adequately tested and their
claims may be exaggerated. Ask your dermatologist
for recommendations for skin care products that have
strong science behind them and have been proven
safe and effective in human studies.

• For day, wear sunscreen and consider using products containing anti-oxidants, as they also have sun-protection properties. At night, consider using products containing
retinoids, peptides or growth factors for their repair properties.

The "Road to Healthy Skin Tour"

Dr. Susan Goodlerner, Torrance, CA

On September 5th, I participated as a volunteer physician for the
Skin Cancer Foundation performing skin cancer screenings in a
mobile van furnished like a complete clinic. On that day we were
in a Rite Aid parking lot in Torrance. The mobile clinic named,
the "Road to Healthy Skin Tour" travels around the country from
April-October performing screenings.

If you have friends or family members who need a skin cancer screening, you can send them the link so they will look for the
van in their community. The statistics regarding the number of melanomas and other skin cancers detected are impressive

For excellent information on skin cancer, self exams of the skin
and sun protection go to www.skincancer.org.
