- Rough skin
Dr. Goodlerner was one of the first dermatologists in the South Bay to offer Fraxel after having one-on-one training with one of the physicians who developed the Fraxel laser. She has provided a variety of laser treatments for her patients for more than 25 years.
Dr. Goodlerner’s Interview with RealSelf.com
“My skin is healthy and glowing after my Fraxel laser treatments, and I receive tons of compliments regularly.” – Barbara Mignosi, age 52
What is Fraxel Laser treatment?
The laser is called Fraxel because – fractions at a time – it treats only the targeted areas while leaving the surrounding skin intact. The laser light rejuvenates skin cells deep down at the dermis layer, stimulating your skin’s natural production of collagen.
A treatment session takes 30-60 minutes depending on the size of the treated area. For optimal improvement, a series of 4-5 treatments every 2-4 weeks is recommended.
Is Fraxel painful?
Most patients experience mild to moderate discomfort during the treatment. A topical skin anesthetic or numbing cream is applied for an hour to minimize that discomfort.
Prior to treatment, the numbing cream is removed, and a special gel is applied to the skin so that the laser hand piece glides more readily over the skin. The hand piece has a “smart” scanner that allows the laser beams to penetrate the skin while ensuring maximum safety.
What are the results?
Your skin will feel softer and smoother right away, while results like diminished fine lines and wrinkles will not be evident fully until after the series of treatments. The gradual results prevent anyone from knowing that you have had a cosmetic procedure.
“In my experience, Fraxel will result in at least 50% improvement in acne scars for most patients if they complete the prescribed series of 4 or 5 treatments.” – Dr. Goodlerner.
How soon can you return to work after Fraxel?
Swelling is minimal and generally resolves in about two days. Your skin will have a pinkish or sunburned appearance for 5-7 days, and you will experience some mild peeling.
Because the Fraxel Laser does not “ablate” or remove the outer skin layer, you can resume routine activities soon after your treatments. Some patients choose to have a Fraxel treatment on Thursday or Friday and return to work on Monday.
